A Musical Week – High School Musical at Edrington (Berwick)
20090824 Monday 24 August 2009
The big week of Haileybury Musicals continued with Edrington performing the full version of High School Musical. A marching band, basketball jocks, drama queens and 'braniacs' filled the stage for this Middle School extravaganza. Students from Years 5 to 8 were involved with a wonderful staff and Senior student band providing the music. It was an ambitious endeavour that was pulled together by the hard work and collaboration of the staff and students. Tess McGregor, Rahart Sadiqzai, Letitia Sindt and Ashley Smallman led the cast in a performance which left the audience feeling that they were "All in this together"!
Year 8 student Troy said:
‘High School Musical’ is the story of having the courage to break out of the images that others can place upon us, to risk everything to follow your dreams. The character I play is called ‘Chad’; he is the kind of guy who is at school only for his basketball. He learns throughout the play that there is more to life than just sport and that you need to be well-balanced to get along with others.’
Alexandra (also Year 8) played the role of Kelsi, the shy composer of the musical in the play. Alex was selected for her exceptional musical talent; she has recently been accepted into the College of the Arts Melbourne Youth Music program. Alex is their newest member in the wind symphony. Alex said participating in the production had been a wonderful experience, both socially and musically. “I really relate to Kelsi. I get to play the piano, which I love, and I’m very clumsy in real life too.”
