The A Grade Girls Debating Team (affectionately known in debating ranks as the First V) made it through the first round of the Debating Association of Victoria finals by defeating Tintern. Brooke Tonkin, Chandni Dhingra and Anna Pitchouguina spoke, ably supported in preparation by Rhea Daniel and Smrithya Balasubramanian, and coach Vice Principal, Pam Chamberlain.
The motion they were defending was 'That the media should not be allowed to broadcast the private lives of politicians'.
It is also worth mentioning that three Haileybury teams have made the semi-finals of the Inter-School Thant Trophy, the mock-UN assembly. William Kleid, Mahasen Sooriyabandara, Duncan Wallace, Brooke Tonkin, Trung Ngo and Nikhil Gullapalli will compete from 9.00 am until 1.00 pm on Sunday, 30 August, at the Melbourne Town Hall.
